SPRING TIME IN PARIS AND GREEN ROOF For my senior project, I will tell two things. First, I will tell how I helped with the flower show. Next, I will talk about the green roof. The name of the theme for the Philadelphia International Flower Show of 2011 was Springtime in Paris. If you went there, all you could see was about Paris. When you came in the first door, there was big Eiffel tower with lights and lots of flowers and plants growing on it. If you walked around, they had programs where workers showed plants and talked about plants. Everywhere, you could see a new displays from other schools talking about Paris and flowers. The Flower Show was fun and beautiful. The title of Abraham Lincoln High School's theme was Thomas Jefferson's Horticulture Legacy. Jefferson was the third president of the United States. He also was a gardener who loved plants and flowers. He visited gardens all over the world. Before he was president, he was the United States minister to France and he made many friends in Paris who loved plants. He loved to share seeds and plants with friends. One of his friends was Abigail Adams. Jefferson wrote that her house "has a Clever garden to it." Jefferson wanted to learn about North American plants and European plants. I worked our school's flower show display. We got the idea from the book about Thomas Jefferson's house. The name of Jefferson's house is Monticello. His house is really famous. There is a picture of it on five cents. We built a small house just like his. We painted the house so it looked the same as pictures we saw in the book about his house. I helped to paint the walls of the house. I came to school on Saturday to help water the plants we needed for the Jefferson house. We put the trees and plants in the hallway in school so when the truck came, it was faster to put them inside the truck. When we came to the convention center the week before the flower show opened, we needed to start to get ready. First, there was nothing there. We could see a lot of people working and getting ready for the next week. We needed to take the things out the truck, like trees and our plants and tools and water. Then, we needed to think how we would put up the walls to look like a real house. We had to cut the wood for the house. The roof of the house was not right. We needed to fix it. We needed to make the walls higher. We needed to water the plant every week so the plant will not die. We needed to learn a little about Jefferson so if people asked us, we would know what to tell them about Jefferson, his house and how he loved plants. Why I pick this topic is because when I walk every day on the street, all I can see is paper on the ground. When I see kids put gum on the wall or down on the seat of the bus, it make me so mad! When you walk, you might not see the gum on ground. Then you start to walk. You feel some thing on your shoes. It is gum! You will be mad because you do not want to have gum on your shoes right. Sometimes, gum becomes stuck on your hair. You do not know anything. Then, when you feel your hair, all you feel is gum! you have must cut gum from your hair. I know when that happens to you, you will be so mad. It make feel so mad because People, we can do better then that!
